About Us

Willie Walters Wrestling Club is a traveling youth wrestling club affiliated with the Mason-Dixon Youth Wrestling League (MDWL). The club is named after the late wrestling coach of James Wood High School; George "Willie" Walters, who coached from 1964-1983. Willie Walters Wrestling Club aims to promote youth wrestling within the communities of Winchester and Frederick County (and surrounding areas), and to foster the ideals of good sportsmanship through competitive wrestling. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, ALL VOLUNTEER wrestling organization. Our wrestling season commences in late October with practices two times a week for each practice group, leading into weekly meets on Sundays (maybe some Saturdays) from January through March. Some meets are in Frederick County, while others are in Northern Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania; all within about 1.5 hours of Winchester. The regular meets culminate in a league championship in early March. The MDWL represents 4 states, with around 18-20 participating teams and around 1500 wrestlers and it is continually growing every year.

Our home practice location is the wrestling room at James Wood Middle School in Winchester. And we generally host tournaments at Sherando High School.
